Most student moves in Paris are small, but they are rarely simple: a room under the roof reached by six flights of stairs, a lease that ends on a fixed date, a check-out inspection the same week. This page covers prices for small volumes and the French paperwork that comes with leaving a flat.
What a small move costs
Prices for the Economy service within Paris (10 km), excluding VAT. The last column adds a sixth floor with no lift at the departure address, the typical chambre de bonne.
| Volume | Example | Lift or ground floor | Sixth floor, no lift |
|---|---|---|---|
| 3 m³ | Boxes, suitcases, a bike | €250 | €305 |
| 5 m³ | Boxes, a bed, a desk and a chair | €250 | €375 |
| 8 m³ | Small studio | €300 | €480 |
| 12 m³ | Furnished studio of 20 to 35 m² | €440 | €620 |
For 3 to 5 m³ on a ground floor, the minimum charge of €250 applies. Add 20% VAT to every figure. These are estimates from our current price list, and your written quote confirms the price. Larger homes and the other service levels are on our moving prices page.
Top-floor rooms and old buildings
Many student rooms in Paris are former maids’ rooms on the sixth or seventh floor, reached by a narrow service staircase with no lift. We carry everything down the stairs, at €30 excl. VAT per floor. When a bed, a desk or a wardrobe will not fit down the staircase, a furniture lift (monte-meuble) takes it out through the window, for €250 excl. VAT for half a day, per address.
In Paris, a furniture lift needs a parking permit from the city, requested at least 15 days before the move. When you ask for a quote, tell us the floor, whether there is a lift and roughly how big it is. The team then arrives with the right equipment.
Choosing a service level
Economy suits most students: you pack your boxes, we protect and carry the furniture and pack your computer and screen. If you have flat-pack furniture to take apart and put back together, Economy + includes that, along with wardrobe boxes for your clothes.
Book two to three weeks ahead. Summer and the end of each month are the busiest periods, and a move booked three days ahead or less costs 15% more. For an urgent request, call us on +33 7 82 14 34 72.
Your lease, your notice and the état des lieux
A few French words come up when you leave a rented flat:
- Bail: the lease. A student lease (bail étudiant) is a furnished lease of nine months.
- Préavis: the notice you give your landlord. One month for a furnished flat. For an unfurnished flat, one month in Paris, where the rules for high-demand areas (zones tendues) apply, and three months outside these areas.
- État des lieux: the inspection report. One is signed when you move in, another when you leave (état des lieux de sortie), and the landlord compares the two.
- Dépôt de garantie: the deposit. It must be returned within one month if the two reports match, or within two months if they do not, minus any justified deductions.
Plan the move a day or two before the check-out inspection. The flat has to be empty, and you will need time to clean it. Take photos of each room once it is empty.
Moving to another city or storing over the summer
If your master’s starts in Lyon or your internship in Bordeaux, we move students across France, in a dedicated truck or in a shared truck for small volumes: see moving within France.
If you leave Paris for the summer or a semester abroad, furniture storage costs €80 excl. VAT a month for each block of 8 m³. A room of up to 8 m³ fits in one block.
Getting a quote
Fill in the quote form in English with your addresses, floors and volume. We call you back within 24 hours, 7 days a week, and send a free written quote. For an urgent request, call us on +33 7 82 14 34 72. Some of our movers speak English, not all of them: label your boxes by room so the team knows on the day what goes where.
